The “Restore The Great Lakes” Initiative aims to help preserve, protect and restore the Great Lakes Watershed Basin for the future generations of all species throughout the region.
The project aims to:
- Restore native diversity with native plants and trees by helping landowners restore and transition part of their land back to native plant species.
- Organize and help people plant gardens with the “Free Garden Project” to help humans come back into balance and peacefully coexist with the natural world.
- Educate about the importance of minimizing and stopping pollution in all it’s forms (especially lawns chemicals).
- Help preserve what’s left of the wild, natural places that remain by educating landowners about alternatives to development via “conservation easements”.
- Support and unite the network of Great Lakes environmental nonprofit organizations.

Why The Great Lakes?
The majesty of the Great Lakes cannot be measured, nor can it ever be described, unless you experience the beauty of her waters. When we walk beside the lakes, we experience the beauty of each one. Seen from above, we can’t help but proclaim the wonder of their relationship with one another. We have a duty to protect these waters from being violated by humanity. We must declare that our identity is bound to these lakes, and vow to protect them. – Josephine Mandamin Grandmother, Co-Founder Mother Earth Water Walk
